Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce has launched the new national watchdog for international aid today in Westminster with the Secretary of State for International Development, Andrew Mitchell MP.

The new Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI), which will report to the International Development Committee in Parliament, will be responsible for the scrutiny of UK Government aid, focusing on value for money for UK taxpayers while ensuring maximum impact for recipients.

Malcolm Bruce MP who chairs the International Development Select Committee which will oversee the ICAI said of the launch:

"I welcome the decision by the Government that the new ICAI will report to the Parliamentary Select Committee which acknowledges the important role that Parliament has to play.

"I believe that the ICAI and the International Development Committee can work effectively together to increase transparency and accountability, to deal with any abuses in aid and development spending, and which will see the delivery of effective results. By doing so we will help to cement the UK's already high standing internationally for international development work.
