Speaking after news of the death of Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, senior Liberal Democrat MP and member of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee Sir Menzies Campbell said:

"The passing of Osama Bin Laden, whose disregard for human life and willingness to bring death and destruction to innocent men, women and children will not be mourned among civilised nations.

"As the leader of Al-Qaeda he encouraged and supported grievous acts of terrorism. It is essential that we maintain staunch vigilance against the possibility that some of his adherents at home or abroad try to mount a vengeful response."
