Assisting home owners
Dundee LibDems today (Saturday 7th November) backed comments by Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie on the subject of protection for owner occupiers during the recession.
Commenting on a report from Shelter Scotland showing an increasing number of children involved in eviction cases, Ross Finnie said, "There are a staggering number of evictions where children are involved. Those involved in the housing system need to show some humanity.
"Evicting families with children should be a last resort.
"We are very supportive of the passage of the Home Owner and Debtor Protection Bill but it is highly complex. In the interests of those who are facing eviction it is important that we get the Bill right. In this complex area of law it is vital that threatened homeowners get the protection they deserve."
Here in Dundee, LibDem City Council Group Leader, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, added, "It is vitally important that all effort is made to assist home owners in difficulties during such challenging economic times."
