Cllr Fraser Macpherson welcomes report on major retail study in City

Dundee LibDems today (Monday 11th June) welcomed publication of an action plan to address issues raised in a major retail study carried out for Dundee City Council.

A report to the Planning and Transport Committee tonight gives recommendations and proposed next steps based on the conclusions of the study by real estate consultants.

LibDem Planning and Transport Convener Councillor Fraser Macpherson said: "This was a comprehensive study of the Dundee region retail area by real estate consultants that took in advice on meeting future needs, assessments of the city centre and other shopping centres within the city.

"Dundee, of course, has become a vibrant regional shopping area that provides local people with a huge variety of retailing choice and brings in many people from outwith the area to the city, boosting the local economy in the process.

"It is essential that we build on the enviable reputation that Dundee now enjoys as far as the retail scene is concerned and at the same time look at ways of boosting those areas that require improvement.

"The recommendations of the study are far-reaching and will help the council to ensure that people continue to have convenient access to an excellent standard of shopping provision."

The report to committee states that implementation of the study findings will need action over a number of areas and will have significant implications for future retail provision across the city.
