Labour "totally fails" on climate change, says Claire Matthew

Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Sunday 19th November) slammed the Tony Blair Labour Government for failing on climate change.

The Climate Change Bill announced in the Queen's Speech sets out measures to cut emissions of carbon dioxide but fails to set annual targets.

Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said, "The climate change bill is right to set binding targets for carbon emissions, but there have to be annual targets so the Government's progress can be assessed. Merely setting a target for 2050 is pointless. We need a Government that proposes solutions, not just targets.

"Only the Liberal Democrats are showing how to tax pollution not people and meet our agreed targets, with the green tax switch."

Locally, LibDem Dundee spokesperson Claire Matthew said, "Labour has totally failed on climate change. It's the Liberal Democrats who are the future in terms of making the decisions necessary on this vital issue."
