Dundee LibDems welcome Post Office proposals9.25.00am GMT Sun 5th Mar 2006
Dundee Liberal Democrat councillor Helen Dick today (Sunday 5th March) welcomed the £2 billion Liberal Democrat plan to safeguard the future of the Post Office Network and the Universal Service Obligation. Helen said, "Coming after recent comments by the Royal Mail's Chief Executive that 10 000 Post Office branches could close over the next 4 years, it is good to see our party respond so positively with proposals to ensure the future viability of Royal Mail and the Post Office network. "Having seen the closure of a local Post Office in my own ward in Downfield, I know only too well how much communities feel the loss of local Post Office services," Helen continued. The LibDems adopted its substantial proposals to safeguard the Post Office network at its Federal Conference in Harrogate yesterday (4th March). The Conference also called on Liberal Democrats to campaign against the dismal failure of both Labour and the Conservatives to protect the Post Office network and ensure Royal Mail is able to compete effectively. There were also calls on the government to reverse its destructive decision to end the Post Office Card Account. Related Links:Liberal Democrats back £2 billion plan to save the post office network.
