Sir Menzies Campbell QC MP
Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Thursday 7th May) backed comments by former LibDem Leader Sir Menzies Campbell who has challenged Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy at Scottish Questions in the House of Commons over the temporary cut in VAT.
Following his intervention at Scottish Questions, Sir Menzies said, "The one thing which is quite clear is that the temporary VAT has had no visible effect. Scotland would have benefited socially, economically and environmentally if the money had been spent on home insulation, the replacement of inadequate schools and building council houses."
Here in Dundee, Liberal Democrat City Council Group Leader, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, added, "The VAT cut was a mistake by the Labour Government and has not helped Scotland."
