Cllr Helen Dick
Dundee LibDems today (Friday 20th March) gave strong backing to Scottish LibDem Leader Tavish Scott MSP, who yesterday challenged Alex Salmond at First Minister's Questions to provide real support for the renewables industry.
Tavish Scott said, "Marine renewables could create 7,000 Scottish jobs, but the SNP could risk that opportunity at a time when our economy needs it most.
"Labour's dash for nuclear threatens to cut off the investment, commitment and engineering skills needed for renewable energy.
"Shell's decision to abandon wind, wave and tidal is a big blow.
"The Scottish Government needs to respond to this news, not sit back and rely on old press releases.
"The Saltire cheque won't be signed until 2015. But industry needs help now."
Here in Dundee, LibDem councillor for Strathmartine, Cllr Helen Dick added, "In the challenging economic situation facing the country, it is vital that the opportunities presented by renewables are not lost."
