Dundee LibDems add voice to concerns that homelessness target 'could fail'

Dundee LibDems today (Friday 13th June) added their voice to concerns that the target of ending homelessness by 2012 might not be achieved.

A representative of the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations admitted to Liberal Democrat Housing spokesperson, Jim Tolson MSP, at the Scottish Parliament's Communities Committee that there is confusion about who will be exempt from Right to Buy when the current 10 year exemption period finishes in 2012. This could mean a number of organisations originally exempt from Right to Buy losing their exemption and many affordable homes for rent could be sold.

Jim said, "MSPs were warned today by Shelter Scotland that the target of ending homelessness by 2012 might not be achieved across Scotland and that progress so far is well behind targets."

Here in Dundee, City Council LibDem Group Leader, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, added, "Although Dundee City Council is locally making good progress on homelessness, it is clear that the SNP government is failing to deliver and there is clear confusion over the detail of the future of Right to Buy."
