Dundee LibDems say let Councils decide locally on council house sales

Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Saturday 5th April) backed comments by the Scottish Parliament's LibDem Housing Spokesperson who has said that council house Right-To-Buy powers should be devolved to Scotland's local authorities.

This follows the publication of a summary of responses to the Scottish Government's housing consultation, with housing spokesperson Jim Tolson MSP saying, "It is clear from this consultation document that different housing associations have identified different needs for social rented housing in their areas.

"This is why Liberal Democrats believe that the full range of Right-To-Buy powers should be devolved to democratically elected local councils to help them to meet local needs."

Here in Dundee, City Council LibDem Group Leader, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, said, "The position of Dundee City Council is to support council house sales policy to be decided locally and democratically by local authorities. This will take local needs fully into account."
