Dundee LibDems welcome news from EU on tackling emissions

Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Monday 4th December) welcomed news that the European Union has ordered tougher greenhouse gas emission targets to meet its commitments under the Kyoto protocol to combat global warming.
The move has been welcomed by carbon traders and by some in the business community. Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said, "The Commission's reduction in the targets submitted by national governments is a welcome tightening of the EU's emissions regime. This will cause a higher price for carbon, and hence greater incentives to emit less by businesses."
Locally, here in Dundee, City Council LibDem Vice Convener of Environmental Services and Sustainability, Cllr Helen Dick, said, "The stance by the EU Commission is sensible and a further step towards a more sustainable future."
