Dundee LibDems support Nick Clegg MP's call to scrap unnecessary and illiberal laws

Dundee East Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesperson Dr Clive Sneddon today (Friday 10th November) welcomed the campaign by Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary Nick Clegg MP to repeal unnecessary, ineffective and illiberal legislation.

Clive said, "Nick Clegg is targeting in particular laws used to suppress the democratic right to protest, such as restrictions on protest in Parliament Square under the so-called 'Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005', or the unworkable and expensive Identity Cards Act 2006, which by bringing personal information together will perversely make identity theft easier.

"The Scottish Parliament is rightly beginning to review the effect of its own legislation, and the Westminster Parliament should do the same, with a sunset clause meaning any new legislation will have a limited period in force, after which a positive decision by Parliament would be required to keep it on the statute book."

Clive concluded, "Please would you join Nick's campaign by suggesting which laws you think should be repealed. You may write to Nick Clegg MP at the House of Commons, or make your suggestions by following the link below:"
