Labour's Call Centre Chaos failing the people who need it most, says Michael Charlton

Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Friday 3rd November) expressed concern that millions of benefit claimants are being let down by Department for Work and Pensions call centres.

The House of Commons public accounts committee found 21 million helpline calls went unanswered in 2004-05 - 44% of the calls made. The report said the service was unresponsive, overcomplicated and unreliable.

Liberal Democrat Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, David Laws MP said, "This system is clearly failing the people need it the most. Vulnerable people across the country are facing hardship and distress caused by the complex and inefficient benefits system."

Locally, Dundee LibDem local party secretary Michael Charlton said, "Labour has made a terrible mess of the administration of our benefits system - its yet another failure of a failed UK government."
