Murray Dick says children in care deserve better treatment

Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Sunday 29th October) welcomed news that every Liberal Democrat run Council in the UK has signed up to a campaign to end the practice of looked after young people having to transport their personal possessions between foster placements in black bin bags.

A National Voice's campaign 'This is not a suitcase' aims to end the situation where local authorities are under no obligation to provide suitable luggage or a suitcase to young people when they leave their foster placements.

Nationally, Sarah Teather MP said, "It's absolutely heartbreaking that these children have to move their possessions from home to home in bin bags. In councils where Liberal Democrats hold or share power young people in care will no longer suffer the indignity of having to use bin bags to move their belongings between foster care placements."

Here in Dundee, Liberal Democrat spokesperson Murray Dick said, "Looked after children need is stability, security and to know that someone cares. This campaign highlights that little things can make all the difference. Politicians need to pay attention to the small details that can really change the quality of life for these young people."
