Cllr Helen Dick says threat to local Post Offices "of great concern"

Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Friday 20th October) said that damning criticism made earlier this week by Postcomm, the independent regulator of postal services, of the Labour Government's handling of Post Office services, was further evidence that local Post Offices are "not safe in Labour's hands."

Dundee Liberal Democrat councillor for Strathmartine Ward, Cllr Helen Dick, said, "Both locally here in Dundee, and nationally, the Liberal Democrats have fought against the closure of local Post Offices. However, Tony Blair's ruling out of further help for the service made earlier this week, together with the end of the Post Office Card Account, calls into serious question Labour's commitment to our local Post Office network."

Jo Swinson MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, said, " The Post Office Card Account offers an accessible and affordable way for thousands of people in the area to receive their benefits, yet the Government is proposing to axe it."

Liberal Democrat Shadow Trade and Industry Secretary, Edward Davey MP, said, "With over 5,000 post offices in danger of closing according to Postcomm's figures, we now have a crisis of unprecedented proportions. The Liberal Democrats will be leading the Parliamentary campaign to call for action before it is too late."
