Dundee LibDems welcome news on climate change

Dundee Liberal Democrats have welcomed the news that five political parties have signed up to a joint agreement on the need to tackle climate change together. The Liberal Democrats, the Tories, Scottish Nationalists, Plaid Cymru and the DUP have put aside party differences to develop policies on "the most serious threat we face". The Labour Party was invited to join in this campaign, but has so far declined to do so.

Cllr Fraser Macpherson, Dundee City Council's Liberal Democrat Group Leader, said, "I have long called for political parties to work together over the big global issues, just as we have done with others at local level on local issues.

"LibDems aim to push climate change to the top of the agenda and this cross-party commitment is a real step forward - no-one should underestimate the challenge of climate change. I am pleased that the idea of a cross-party co-operation on this vital issue, which Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment and Rural Affairs Secretary, Norman Baker MP, first proposed last year, is now a reality.

"The Labour Government has not joined and I for one really hope that there will be a change of heart on the part of government."
